AstraZeneca to Support Young Leaders Working at the Nexus of Health and Climate Change

AFS Intercultural Programs is proud to partner with AstraZeneca, through its Young Health Programme (YHP), to help create a healthier, more sustainable future for people, society and the planet by offering scholarships for young leaders from around the world to join the Climate Entrepreneurship Academy at the 2024 AFS Youth Assembly.

With these scholarships, AstraZeneca aims to empower young leaders who are tackling pressing climate issues that have the potential to impact health, build more resilient health systems, and improve equitable access to healthcare.

Which scholarships were available?

Scholarships for the Climate Entrepreneurship Academy

Candidates must meet all of the requirements below to be considered eligible for this scholarship:

  • Ideal candidates are actively working, studying, or researching in the Climate, Climate-Tech, and/or Sustainability field(s). If they are a student, they should be majoring in a related field (STEM, business, law, etc.) and be able to demonstrate at least 1 year of relevant experience in the Climate/Sustainability space (internship, work, research, etc.);
  • Have never attended the AFS Youth Assembly before;
  • Be between 18 – 32 years old at the time of application;
  • Be able to actively participate in program sessions conducted in English;
  • Have the ability to secure a travel visa and travel to the United States (the Academy is an in-person event).

Scholarships for the Changemakers Academy

Candidates must meet all of the requirements below to be considered eligible for this scholarship:

  • Have participated in the AFS/bp Global STEM program in the past;
  • Have never attended the AFS Youth Assembly before;
  • Be between 18 – 32 years old at the time of application;
  • Have the ability to secure a travel visa and travel to the United States (the Academy is an in-person event).

Candidates must meet all of the requirements below to be considered eligible for this scholarship:

  • Have participated in the AFS/bp Global STEM program in the past;
  • Have never attended the AFS Youth Assembly before;
  • Be between 18 – 32 years old at the time of application;
  • Have the ability to secure a travel visa and travel to the United States (the Academy is an in-person event).

Scholarships for the Global Educators Academy

Candidates must meet all of the requirements below to be considered eligible for this scholarship:

  • Be an active/in-service educator (proof is required);
  • Have never attended the AFS Youth Assembly before;
  • Be between 18 – 32 years old at the time of application;
  • Be able to actively participate in program sessions conducted in English;
  • Have the ability to secure a travel visa and travel to the United States (the Academy is an in-person event).

What is included in these scholarships?

Scholarships for the Youth Assembly Academies cover the program registration fees, which gives you access to everything listed as included in the program, plus a travel stipend in the form of a reimbursement for your transportation costs.

What are AFS Youth Assembly Academies?

Academies are enriching program tracks that offer a comprehensive theme-based experience beyond the flagship conference with a series of seminars, organization site visits and exclusive special events to facilitate learning, connection, engagement and action beyond the conference. Delegates who choose an Academy will:

  • Conduct seminar-style activities,
  • Participate in a live pitch where a winner will be selected,
  • Experience first hand the work of global organizations through site visits, and
  • Prepare action plans to address track-specific issues.
