The AFS Youth Assembly is a global platform that cultivates an international network of young leaders and changemakers through exchange, education, action and impact. The 31st AFS Youth Assembly invites passionate young leaders aged 18-35 to join a global community of changemakers. This event goes beyond dialogue—it’s about action. Through engaging sessions, networking with peers from around the world, and ideation challenges, you’ll gain the skills and connections to create lasting impact, guided by experts and practitioners.
Under the event theme: “Rise. Reimagine. Rebuild: A World for All,” we will explore four key tracks:
- Reclaiming Development as a Human Right for All
- Policy, Justice and Adaptation: Real-World Solutions for Climate Resilience
- Rethinking Education: Youth Innovation for Future-Ready Skills
- Bridging Divides: The Power of Connection in a Polarized World

Two days (August 13 and August 14) will be filled with panels, workshops and other sessions designed to tackle the main event theme:

Reclaiming Development as a Human Right for All
Development isn’t a luxury or a gift—it’s a fundamental human right that belongs to everyone, everywhere.
For too long, “development” has been something decided in boardrooms for people elsewhere. This track flips the script. We’re exploring how youth empowerment, economic mobility, and radical inclusion can provide dignity to those hit hardest by conflict, displacement, and the climate crisis. It’s time to move beyond “being included” and start leading the design of a just, global future.
Panel discussions will focus on:
- No Rights, No Future: Reclaiming Development for Women and Children
- From Promise to Reality: The Fight for the Right to Development

Policy, Justice and Adaptation: Real-World Solutions for Climate Resilience
We’re past the point of “awareness”—it’s time for fair policies, inclusive justice, and practical adaptation.
Climate action is a race against tipping points, but we won’t win if the solutions aren’t fair. This track dives into the gritty reality of climate resilience: pass-ready policies, inclusive justice, and practical adaptation. We are looking at the urgent risks facing our planet and identifying the real-world tools—from disaster tech to green urban planning—that protect people before the clock runs out.
Panel discussions will focus on:
- Cities on the Frontline: Designing Climate-Resilient Urban Futures
- Preventing Climate Displacement in an Era of Extreme Weather

Rethinking Education: Youth Innovation for Future-Ready Skills
Degrees don’t change the world; future-ready skills to disrupt the status quo.
The traditional classroom is struggling to keep up, so we’re hitting the reset button. This track is a laboratory for youth innovation, where we bridge the gap between “schooling” and “doing.” From mastering the entrepreneurial mindset to harnessing the power of AI for social good, we are defining what it means to be a future-ready leader in a world that values impact over grades.

- Ideas to Impact: The Rise of Youth Innovation Ecosystems

Bridging Divides: The Power of Connection in a Polarized World
In an era of echo chambers, the ultimate act of rebellion is building a bridge.
Polarization is the greatest barrier to progress, but technology gives us some tools to dismantle it. This track explores how we can “flip the script” on media, tech, and AI to transform division into dialogue. We’re moving away from online shouting matches and toward building high-trust, inclusive communities. Discover how to use your digital influence to turn global polarization into a powerful partnership.

Upgrade your experience: Attend an Academy
Advance your leadership and sharpen your intercultural skills! Academies are immersive, pre-conference programs designed to give you hands-on experience, expert mentorship, and a global network of peers before the main event. Both Academies will happen on August 9-15, 2026 and will include the participation in the AFS Youth Assembly conference sessions. You can choose from:
Geneva International Affairs Academy
Step into the heart of global diplomacy. This Academy offers a front-row seat to how international organizations tackle the world’s most pressing challenges.
- The Experience: Visit major international organizations in Geneva and engage with experts in diplomacy and policy-making.
- The Benefit: Gain a deep understanding of the UN system and global governance while developing the skills needed for a career in international relations. Plus: You will receive an official UN Certificate of Participation!
Intercultural Leadership Academy
Nestled in the beautiful Swiss Alps (Champéry), this retreat-style Academy is all about self-discovery and cross-cultural mastery.
