“I grew up in a society where women and girls faced inequalities. This experience inspired me to devote my professional career to advance opportunities for women and girls.”

Ugochi Mercy-Okpe is the executive director of Community Health and Advocacy Initiative (CHAIN), a nonprofit, nonpartisan, legal and advocacy organization devoted to promoting women’s human rights, equality and socioeconomic rights in Nigeria. She was previously head of SERAP’s women’s rights unit. She obtained her LLM in International human rights Law from University of Notre Dame Law School, She has also been an advisor to multiple United Nations Permanent Missions. Mercy Okpe has authored legal opinions on human rights law and anti corruption law. She was awarded the African Women Industrialization Awards for 2021, making her one of Africa’s outstanding women of the year.
