***For Certified Teachers or Teachers in Training ONLY

The Educators Workshop will engage the international cohort of teachers in truly interactive experiences to not only consider how students’ backgrounds and cultures play a role in their outlooks and approaches to creating solutions to the SDGs but also to help prepare them for their future interactions with individuals who approach the world differently than they do.

The educators in this experience can anticipate learning about the PISA 2018 Global Competence assessment and its implications for teaching and learning in any content area and grade level. From there, educators will assume the role of their students throughout the workshop so they can participate in a variety of activities first-hand. Educators will be provided with all of the resources to replicate these activities in their classrooms with little or no preparation so they can prompt vibrant discussion among their students on topics ranging from cultural identity, communication styles, curbing judgement of others and so much more. Educators should expect to network throughout the day, as they will engage with different groups to meet people from around the world and expand their network.

The group will utilize various apps and technologies to help them connect their classes with one another after departing the Youth Assembly so the intercultural learning and creative problem solving can continue well beyond the time spent at the workshop. Anticipate high levels of engagement, plenty of laughter, and a lot of learning throughout the day!

educators package

In 2015 all 193 UN member states agreed on 17 Sustainable Development Goals, which delineate the targets for international development up to 2030. The thematic Education Package will focus on SDG 4: Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all. Specifically, it will address the targets  4.7: By 2030, ensure that all learners acquire the knowledge and skills needed to promote sustainable development, including, among others, through education for sustainable development and 4c: By 2030, substantially increase the supply of qualified teachers, including through international cooperation for teacher training.

While progress has already been lagging on achieving the Quality Education Goal, Covid-19 has further wiped out 20 years of education gains. It has become known as a “generational catastrophe” as millions of children have fallen behind in their learning. This calls for even greater attention on providing sustainable development education through means that take into account the existing limitations students face worldwide. Education alone can steer progress on all of the 17 SDGs. The Education 2030 Framework for Action aims to mobilize countries and partners around the SDG on education and its targets. As stated by the former Director-General of UNESCO, Irina Bokova, “education, a fundamental human right, is the key to global peace and sustainable development.” Thereby, the Education package will support young teachers between the ages of 18-32 who are aspiring to promote sustainable development learning  in the classroom.

The Educators workshop will engage participants in understanding key aspects of sustainable development and transforming the classroom experience for students, including those whose educational journeys have been interrupted as a result of the pandemic. Participants will begin conversation and planning on the role of young teachers in achieving SDG 4.

In the Educators workshop, participants will engage in the following:

  • Participate in a teaching and learning workshop focused on interactive intercultural learning and connecting students to the SDGs
  • Discover resources designed to increase student engagement
  • Experience activities ready for inclusion in the everyday learning environment
  • Learn best practices for increasing student engagement around global competence
  • Network and build relationships with young teachers from around the world
  • Interact with leading educational experts.
