“The AFS Youth Assembly has hugely contributed to my professional and personal growth. It has positively cultivated my knowledge in starting and improving social ventures and made me aware of how much I can contribute to my community.”
Nur Faqihah is an agricultural science student at International Islamic University Malaysia. She is very dedicated in advocating for the underprivileged in her community. She aims to aid them and believes in the potential of every individual to create a brighter future.
She volunteered for a national NGO, known as Impian Kencana after realizing education is the key to breaking out from poverty. She found out many students are lacking of presentation skills which are crucial in their quality of academic and personal lives.
As a daughter of farmer, the SDGs that resonate with her the most are SDG number 1 and 2. Faqihah has immersed herself in a research project by leading a group to complete a project titled FILTERINATOR: Seaweed Biofiltration Keeping the Water Clean. Her contribution has won a gold medal at a national innovation competition, Pre University Malaysia Innovation Competition 2023 (PIITRAM) and has received a certificate from University of Pennsylvania for completing a program named Global Youth Changemaker.
With her training and experience, she would apply her skills to support and mentor youths to enhance their work and apply their project to reach a wider audience.
